The Lake County Office of Education sponsors regular field trips and classes at Taylor Observatory, where students learn STEAM-related subjects in the facility's state-of-the-art classroom; tour professional-grade telescopes at the Observatory; and take in the wonders of the Universe at Norton Planetarium shows.
Run by Jennifer Kelly, M.A., Learning Support Specialist for the Taylor Observatory, Planetarium, & STEAM Center, the field trip program welcomes thousands of students a year on a mission to learn and share knowledge. "Seeing students light up with excitement about exploration and making connections is definitely the best part of teaching our Taylor field trips," Kelly says.
Taylor Observatory Resident Astronomer Angelo Parisi, who teaches and develops educational programs for the Lake County Office of Education, shares Kelly's enthusiasm for the power of education to enlighten.
"Our work at Taylor gives students and the general public access to science education that would be accessible to people anywhere else in the world," he says. "I love getting students and visitors excited about different subjects ranging from astronomy to astrobiology to robotics."
